Sun + Seaweed: Cyanotype Workshop with Oriana Poindexter
April 28 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm$125
Small Group Cyanotype Workshop led by Oriana Poindexter, with local seaweed species ID presentation by Carissa Maurin, Aquaculture Project Manager at Gulf of Maine Research Institute and seaweed provided by Nautical Farms.
Join artist and marine scientist Oriana Poindexter for an interactive art-science workshop to learn the cyanotype, or sun-printing, process. Learn this early alternative photographic process and use local seaweed species to create your own art prints using techniques first developed in the 1840s. Carissa Maurin, Aquaculture Project Manager at the Gulf of Maine Research Institute, will join us to share her expertise on the local seaweed species.
This workshop will teach you the fundamentals of the cyanotype process, its history, seaweed identification, and will culminate with each participant creating their own original cyanotype prints – usually something frame worthy.
The first portion of the workshop will involve an introduction, demonstration, seaweed identification, and selection of materials, and the second portion will be a printing session. If you have materials you’d like to bring to use for printing (sentimental objects, dried botanicals, etc), please feel free to bring them.
Registration fee includes all materials and instruction, along with light snacks and one drink from Après. If the fee is a hardship for you, please contact Oriana at studio@orianapoindexter.
Attendees must be 21+. Refunds are not available within 7 days of the event date.
