SUMMARY:Seaweed ID Beach Walk
DESCRIPTION:TIME CHANGE!! NEW TIME IS 9:00-10:30 AM. \nThe Seaweed Week species ID beach walk is back for our 5th annual event! \nHow many species of seaweed are there in Maine? Do seaweeds change with the season? What even is seaweed? \nDive into these questions and more at this species-identification workshop and beach walk\, hosted by Maine Sea Grant’s seaweed specialist\, Jaclyn Robidoux. \nWe’ll explore the intertidal zone at low tide near Two Lights State Park and learn to identify edible seaweed species native to the Gulf of Maine. Discover the ecology and diversity of seaweeds\, while learning about the environmental benefits these species provide in coastal habitats. We’ll discuss sustainable harvest\, Maine’s growing seaweed farming industry\, and the role this versatile resource plays in Maine’s marine economy. Bring your seaweed questions and we’ll provide the field guides! \nRSVP here! \nIMPORTANT NOTE\nWe’ll be moving through slick and rocky terrain. Please wear proper foot gear (rubber boots/shoes with good traction that may get wet). It can be colder and more windy on the ocean. Dress accordingly for a few hours in the Maine outdoors. \nDIRECTIONS\nLocation: Dyer Cove\, Cape Elizabeth\, ME. Follow directions to Two Lights State Park in Cape Elizabeth\, ME. To get to Dyer Cove\, bear left at the fork right before the park entrance and follow to the public parking lot at the end of Two Lights Road (right near The Lobster Shack).
