We’ll do a row-by of a local kelp farm. You’ll learn about a variety of seaweed in Maine and enjoy seaweed tea and seaweed-infused treats as part of this experience! Open to all skill-levels\, ages 10 and up. You can row or be a passenger. \nSeaweed Sauna: \nNew this year! Follow-up your row with wood-fired heat on the Belfast waterfront with our Seaweed Sauna! Enhance your sauna glow with a salty seaweed scrub and seaweed mask. Dip in the harbor to rinse off and cool off\, among the abundant rockweed and bladderwrack. Choose Seaweed Sauna as an add-on on our booking form. The Seaweed Sauna can also be booked as a stand-alone experience (meaning\, you don’t have to row to sauna). \n  \n\nSessions and Pricing: \nThe Seaweed Row will be offered throughout Seaweed Week\, in the morning and late afternoon sessions. DESCRIPTION:The Tiny Art Show returns as part of Maine Seaweed Week 2026\, in partnership with Maine Coast Sea Vegetables. \nThis open community studio invites artists of all ages to create miniature works using provided canvases and materials\, along with special seaweed-inspired “artist supplies” from Maine Coast Sea Vegetables that bring a coastal element into the creative process. \nCompleted pieces will be displayed on the main floor of the library\, with community voting open through the end of May. A special prize\, sponsored by Maine Coast Sea Vegetables\, will be awarded to the winning artwork. \nFor those unable to attend the in-person session\, canvases can be picked up\, completed at home\, and submitted at any point during May (earlier submissions will have more time to receive votes). \nEvent page and registration here.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a guided Seaweed ID walk at low tide\, led by Jaclyn Robidoux\, seaweed specialist with Maine Sea Grant and UMaine Cooperative Extension. \nWe’ll explore the shore near Two Lights State Park\, learning to identify native edible seaweeds and diving into their ecological roles\, seasonal rhythms\, environmental benefits\, and at-home uses. We’ll also talk about Maine’s growing seaweed farming industry\, sustainable harvest practices\, and the big role this unique marine resource plays in the state’s coastal economy. \nWe’ll bring the field guides\, seaweed samples\, and snacks to take home—just bring your outdoor gear and questions! \nRegistration: $20. Children 10 and under are free—please note if they’ll be joining when you sign up so we can bring enough supplies. Space is limited. REGISTER HERE. \n  \n\nWHEN: Monday\, May 4th. 5:00 – 6:30 PM \nWHERE: This workshop is being held at Dyer Cove in Cape Elizabeth\, near Two Lights State Park. Parking is available in the lot next to Dyer Cove\, adjacent to the lot for The Lobster Shack at Two Lights. To map to Dyer Cove\, use the address: 225 Two Lights Road\, Cape Elizabeth\, ME 04107. We’ll meet out on Dyer Cove beach at the Seaweed Week table. \nWEATHER NOTE: This workshop may require navigating some slick and/or rocky terrain. Attendees should have proper footwear (rubber boots/shoes with good traction that may get wet) and dress accordingly for a few hours in the Maine outdoors\, especially as it can be colder and more windy on the ocean. DESCRIPTION:Join Smithereen Farm and other curious people for a week of learning\, harvesting\, processing\, and eating seaweed together! This week-long experience covers the ecology and biology of the seaweed ecosystem\, hand-harvest techniques\, regulations\, drying\, processing and culmination of the wild algae species that abound in Downeast Maine. Participants can join as either a Harvester (full immersion and get paid to harvest seaweed) or a Learner (July session only\, come for a day of education).
