DESCRIPTION:Get in the weeds with DoryWoman Rowing during Maine Seaweed Week\, April 24-May 3! \nSeaweed Row: \nLearn about Maine’s favorite weed and this crop’s importance in Maine’s aquaculture industry\, while rowing a wooden dory in Belfast Bay. We’ll do a row-by of a local kelp farm. You’ll learn about a variety of seaweed in Maine and enjoy seaweed tea and seaweed-infused treats as part of this experience! Open to all skill-levels\, ages 10 and up. You can row or be a passenger. \nSeaweed Sauna: \nNew this year! Follow-up your row with wood-fired heat on the Belfast waterfront with our Seaweed Sauna! Enhance your sauna glow with a salty seaweed scrub and seaweed mask. Dip in the harbor to rinse off and cool off\, among the abundant rockweed and bladderwrack. Choose Seaweed Sauna as an add-on on our booking form. The Seaweed Sauna can also be booked as a stand-alone experience (meaning\, you don’t have to row to sauna). \n  \n\nSessions and Pricing: \nThe Seaweed Row will be offered throughout Seaweed Week\, in the morning and late afternoon sessions. This row can be booked privately for two or three people or as a mixed group of individuals. Pricing is $105 for individuals\, $200 for two people and $300 for three people. The film explores the qualities that make seaweed a conservation solution and a valuable product\, and how expanding farmed seaweed markets can help address local and widespread challenges. \nPANEL DISCUSSION – 6:45PM to 7:45PM \n\nHow seaweed can be a key contributor to the blue bioeconomy through a diversity of products\, in Maine and beyond.  \nPanelists include: Nichole Price (Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences\, Moderator)\,  Nathan Johnson (Seaweed Farmer)\, Bailey Moritz (World Wildlife Fund)\, and Jaclyn Robidoux (Maine Sea Grant) \n  \n\nThis event is supported by World Wildlife Fund and proceeds benefit the Maine Seaweed Council. We’ll also talk about Maine’s growing seaweed farming industry\, sustainable harvest practices\, and the big role this unique marine resource plays in the state’s coastal economy. \nWe’ll bring the field guides\, seaweed samples\, and snacks to take home—just bring your outdoor gear and questions! \nRegistration: $20. Children 10 and under are free—please note if they’ll be joining when you sign up so we can bring enough supplies. Space is limited. Registration coming soon. \n\n  \nWHEN: Sunday\, April 26th. 1:30 – 3:00 PM \nWHERE: This workshop is being held at Dyer Cove in Cape Elizabeth\, near Two Lights State Park. DESCRIPTION:Join Smithereen Farm and other curious people for a week of learning\, harvesting\, processing\, and eating seaweed together! This week-long experience covers the ecology and biology of the seaweed ecosystem\, hand-harvest techniques\, regulations\, drying\, processing and culmination of the wild algae species that abound in Downeast Maine. Participants can join as either a Harvester (full immersion and get paid to harvest seaweed) or a Learner (July session only\, come for a day of education).
