SUMMARY:Seaweed ID Workshop: Seaweeds at Sunset
DESCRIPTION:Sunset Seaweed Walk at Dyer Cove\, Cape Elizabeth\n\nEnd your Monday with a seaweed walk at sunset in Dyer Cove! \nEver wondered how many species of seaweed grow in Maine? How they change with the seasons? Or which ones are edible? Join us for a hands-on species ID workshop and intertidal beach walk with Maine Sea Grant’s seaweed specialist\, Jaclyn Robidoux\, and get your questions answered. \nWe’ll explore the rocky shore near Two Lights State Park at and during low tide (6:05 pm on 4/28)\, learning to identify native edible seaweeds and diving into their ecological roles\, seasonal rhythms\, and environmental benefits\, and at-home uses. We’ll also talk about Maine’s growing seaweed farming industry\, sustainable harvest practices\, and the big role this unique marine resource plays in the state’s coastal economy. \nWe’ll bring the field guides\, seaweed samples\, and snacks to take home—just bring your outdoor gear and questions! \nRegistration: $20. Children 10 and under are free—please note if they’ll be joining when you sign up so we can bring enough supplies. Space is limited. \nREGISTER HERE \nLOCATION: This workshop is being held at Dyer Cove in Cape Elizabeth\, near Two Lights State Park. Parking is available in the lot next to Dyer Cove\, adjacent to the lot for The Lobster Shack at Two Lights. To map to Dyer Cove\, folks can use the address: 225 Two Lights Road\, Cape Elizabeth\, ME 04107. We’ll meet out on Dyer Cove beach. \nWEATHER NOTE: This workshop may require navigating some slick and/or rocky terrain. Attendees should have proper footwear (rubber boots/shoes with good traction that may get wet) and dress accordingly for a few hours in the Maine outdoors\, especially as it can be colder and more windy on the ocean. We’ll host this workshop in a variety of Maine’s spring weather conditions\, but will notify participants if we need to cancel or reschedule in the case of extreme weather. Thanks for understanding!
