DESCRIPTION:The Tiny Art Show returns as part of Maine Seaweed Week 2026\, in partnership with Maine Coast Sea Vegetables. \nThis open community studio invites artists of all ages to create miniature works using provided canvases and materials\, along with special seaweed-inspired “artist supplies” from Maine Coast Sea Vegetables that bring a coastal element into the creative process. \nCompleted pieces will be displayed on the main floor of the library\, with community voting open through the end of May. SUMMARY:Rockweed Forum Art Show: Floating Filaments
DESCRIPTION:Local Artists of all Styles\n\n\n\n\nEvery month\, the Blue Hill Co-op features a local artist in the café. You may see paintings\, photography\, textiles\, felted pieces\, or any other type of visual art. We’re proud to showcase artists from the Blue Hill Peninsula and to help people find new additions to their personal collections. \n\nIn May\, the featured show will be “Rockweed Forum Art Show: Floating Filaments” \nFourteen artists have contributed work to the show in a wide range of media (oil\, watercolor\, photography\, collage\, pressed seaweed\, fiber art\, cyanotypes\, jewelry\, etc). Along our rocky coast seaweeds drape the boulders and ledges of our shoreline with garlands of color and texture attracting the eye of both artist and scientist.  It is the hope of the Rockweed Forum that this exhibit will draw attention to the numerous seaweeds that are an integral part of our Maine coast. \n\nThe show will run May 1 – 30 with a reception from 3:00 – 5:00 pm on Sunday\, May 4th.

DESCRIPTION:Join Pinecone Studio for a fun and creative event where you can learn how to make beautiful prints! This hands-on workshop will teach you how to make a 2 layer gelatin monoprint using seaweed. No experience is necessary. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to explore your artistic side and create one-of-a-kind prints to take home. \nGuided by James Sylvester \nJames Sylvester is a Maine-based printmaker whose passion for drawing\, carving\, and collaboration fuels his multi-disciplinary art practice. He graduated from Maine College of Art & Design with a BFA with honors in printmaking in 2018 and is a member of Peregrine Press\, Maine’s oldest nonprofit printmaking cooperative\, where he produces his own fine art relief print editions\, explores creative monoprinting techniques\, and currently serves as President. His practice often bleeds into his surrounding creative community\, whether that is through participating in the Portland\, Maine’s yearly steamroller printing event and print crawl\, organizing the artisan market series Art in the Garden at Bissell Brothers\, or running collaborative printmaking workshops across southern Maine at such locations as the Portland Museum of Art\, Hinge Collaborative\, and Congress Square Park. DESCRIPTION:Small Group Cyanotype Workshop led by Oriana Poindexter\, with local seaweed species ID presentation by Carissa Maurin\, Aquaculture Project Manager at Gulf of Maine Research Institute and seaweed provided by Nautical Farms. \nJoin artist and marine scientist Oriana Poindexter for an interactive art-science workshop to learn the cyanotype\, or sun-printing\, process. Learn this early alternative photographic process and use local seaweed species to create your own art prints using techniques first developed in the 1840s. Carissa Maurin\, Aquaculture Project Manager at the Gulf of Maine Research Institute\, will join us to share her expertise on the local seaweed species. \nThis workshop will teach you the fundamentals of the cyanotype process\, its history\, seaweed identification\, and will culminate with each participant creating their own original cyanotype prints – usually something frame worthy. \nThe first portion of the workshop will involve an introduction\, demonstration\, seaweed identification\, and selection of materials\, and the second portion will be a printing session. If you have materials you’d like to bring to use for printing (sentimental objects\, dried botanicals\, etc)\, please feel free to bring them. \nRegistration fee includes all materials and instruction\, along with light snacks and one drink from Après. It will culminate with each participant creating three original cyanotype prints – usually something frame worthy. \nThe first portion of the workshop will involve an introduction\, demonstration\, and seaweed identification. The second portion will be a printing session. If you have personal materials you’d like to bring to use for printing (sentimental objects\, pressed botanicals or seaweeds\, etc)\, please feel free to bring them. \nThe cost of this workshop is $125\, and is limited to 15 participants. Registration fee includes all materials and instruction\, as well as one beverage from Urban Farm Fermentory. Once registration is complete\, your spot is reserved and you’ll begin receiving event reminders. \nAll ages are welcome.
