DESCRIPTION:Exhibition April 21 through May 28\, 2023 at Moss Galleries. Join us for the opening reception\, April 21\, 2023\, 5-7pm\, during Seaweed Week. \nThis solo exhibition includes 24 bronze figures cast from originals made of seaweed and wax\, along with 10 photo/collages with seaweed. \n“The Women of the Gulf of Maine create themselves through the principle of self-organization\, like much of nature. Each sculpture begins with one specimen of wet seaweed that is wrapped around a form. The figures emerge from the ever-changing morphology of the drying seaweed. SUMMARY:Shifting Sands: Beaches\, Bathers\, and Modern Maine Art
DESCRIPTION:Gallery season opening featuring seaweed artists! Exhibition: April 29 to July 16\, 2023 at the Ogunquit Museum of American Art. \nCurated by Donna Cassidy\, Professor Emerita at the University of Southern Maine\, Shifting Sands explores the unique place that the beach holds in modern art. The beach is now viewed as a fragile environment subject to a changing climate and human impact. Among the exhibitors are two artists associated with the Maine Seaweed Council\, Marjorie Moore of Great Diamond Island and Celeste Roberge of South Portland who are both exhibiting seaweed art works. \nThe exhibit opens during Seaweed Week and will run through July\, with Tuesday Talks on July 11\, 2023 (details TBA).
