Join us for the opening reception\, April 21\, 2023\, 5-7pm\, during Seaweed Week. \nThis solo exhibition includes 24 bronze figures cast from originals made of seaweed and wax\, along with 10 photo/collages with seaweed. \n“The Women of the Gulf of Maine create themselves through the principle of self-organization\, like much of nature. Each sculpture begins with one specimen of wet seaweed that is wrapped around a form. The figures emerge from the ever-changing morphology of the drying seaweed. DESCRIPTION:Head to Flatbread on Portland’s waterfront for oven-fired pizza\, kelp-topped salad\, and beverages as part of a community night to benefit the Maine Aquaculture Association! \nThe Maine Aquaculture Association (MAA) is a non-profit trade association that represents Maine seaweed farmers\, as well as shellfish and fin fish farmers. Since 1978\, the MAA has supported farms in developing economically and environmentally sustainable business practices\, promoting the benefits of aquaculture in the local food system\, and preserving Maine’s heritage of a vibrant working waterfront. \nA portion of proceeds from all pizza sales will be donated to the MAA! Stop by the MAA table at the event to learn more about the organization and seaweed farming in Maine!
